Research at a Glance

Trinity's Biology 497 (Directed Research) course specializes in teaching motivated women like you to develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence to be global leaders in the 21st century. This research course provides fundamental skills for a future woman scientist. Here at Trinity we conduct many experiments, which help us enhance our knowledge and skills in the science laboratory.

In the laboratory we use many kinds of scientific equipment like PCR machines (thermal cyclers) and gel electrophoresis apparatus. It gives the students the opportunity to learn more about what it means to be a scientist in a laboratory. You learn how to maintain and keep inventory of a laboratory and how to make your own agarose gels, which you later run with DNA and analyze carfully. You also learn how to analyze, read and review scientific articles. After the end of the semester - sometime in the future, all the students currently taking the course will have a publication in a scientific journal based on the research data that each group collected.
